LGBTQIA+ Q&A

How can mental health care help LGBTQIA+ individuals?

The Huron Street Wellness Center team is your trusted partner in your mental health journey. We have extensive experience in helping LGBTQIA+ individuals with a variety of issues, from gender dysphoria, identity development, and transition challenges to body image and decision-making about gender-affirming treatments and procedures. We also understand the unique challenges and stressors that LGBTQIA+ individuals face in a society that discriminates against their personal choices. You may struggle with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or other mental health disorders. You may also have relationship conflicts that require professional guidance. No matter what issues you face, the Huron Street Wellness Center team offers the support and skills you need to overcome obstacles and live the life you deserve.

What services are available for LGBTQIA+ individuals?

Huron Street Wellness Center offers integrative mental health care services, starting with an initial consultation to understand your concerns and perform a psychiatric diagnostic assessment. After identifying your mental health needs, you work together with your therapist to set goals and create a plan to achieve them. The plan is highly personalized, depending on your specific issues and/or mental health disorders. But you can rely on our expertise and evidence-based practices to help you improve your well-being. The Huron Street Wellness Center team also offers comprehensive medication management when needed and psychotherapy. As integrative providers, we may also recommend mindfulness meditation, therapeutic yoga, and other complementary therapies.

Do LGBTQIA+ services include support for coming out?

Coming out is an incredibly important and difficult decision for lesbian, gay, bi, and trans individuals. You have many choices to make, from when to come out to whom you will tell. And you may also worry about the potential reactions you may receive from family, friends, and co-workers. Your Huron Street Wellness Center therapist can help you explore your thoughts and feelings and develop a plan for coming out that works for you. There is no right or wrong way to take this step, but it often helps to have a caring therapist who can offer insight and support. Contact Huron Street Wellness Center today or request an in-person or telehealth appointment online if you need help for LGBTQIA+ issues.
